 Why am I a Member?

One of the most important reasons to belong to ISM is the opportunity for educational value. Through their web site, publications and conferences ISM provides a great deal of professional information and resources to members. In addition, affiliates around the country add additional value by offering seminars, conferences and workshops.  I hope you are taking advantage of these opportunities to enhance and improve your career.   Here are a few examples:

ISM has published the May issue of Inside Supply Management – a magazine for Supply Chain Professionals.  You can read it on the ISM web site  or receive a interactive version by email http://www.ism.ws/pubs/ISMMag/index.cfm?navItemNumber=5471

In addition to the other great information, I found several articles of particular interest:

Interesting article about an organization imperative to transfer knowledge form senior people (who might soon retire) to the younger workforce.  We’ve talked about it several times over the years – but in my opinion, never really have done a good job of forming a structured process.   Given that our workforce could see some dramatic changes over the next few years – might be worth reconsidering.

ISM has published the latest salary survey. Great information if you are considering asking for a raise or trying to determine what industry to move into if you want to increase your earning potential.

ISM International Conference.  If you missed this conference in San Diego, then you missed a huge opportunity to mingle with 2000 Supply Chain executives from around the world.  Conference proceedings are available to members online at http://www.ism.ws/education/content.cfm?ItemNumber=20139

In conjunction with the Conference, ISM hosted a Leadership Program for members who are managing and directing affiliates. I participated and presented a program on Team Building (it’s posted on my web page at   www.mltweb.com/seminars/ . The rest of the workshop materials will be posted on the ISM web site here:   http://www.ism.ws/MembersOnly/content.cfm?ItemNumber=8107

Regional Education:

The ISM affiliate located in Seattle will be hosting a one-day seminar on negotiation in June. Here is the flyer

The ISM affiliate in Spokane will be hosting the Pacific Northwest Purchasing Conference in October. Keep your eyes on this web site for conference information. http://www.napmspokane.org/seminars.htm
