Welcome to the 2015-2016 ISM Year

After months of planning, ISM-Columbia Basin is ready to embark on the 2015-2016 ISM year. The first meeting of the new year will be a great opportunity to meet new members, connect with existing members, and be introduced to your new Board. This dinner meeting will focus on Professional Networking and will be a great opportunity to meet other local Supply Chain Professionals. ISM-Columbia Basin is growing and the membership is very diverse; whether you work in government, state, agriculture, utility, or private industry you are welcome to come and share your ideas and experiences and hopefully have some fun along the way.

In Memory of Roland J. (Jerry) Baker (1938 – 2015)

We mark the passage of an important contributor to our profession. Jerry Baker was an active member in ISM Western Washington before becoming the ISM [NAPM at that time] Chief Operating Officer in 1979. I first met Jerry in San Francisco at a District 1 workshop in the summer of 1981 Jerry had a Vision for the organization and moved us forward in many ways. During his tenure, Jerry presided over the headquarters move from New Jersey to Arizona, the implementation of the Purchasing Managers economic Index and the creating of the Center for Advanced Purchasing Studies (CAPS).  Jerry retired from ISM in 1998 and continued teaching adjunct classes in Seattle. We last heard Jerry as the Keynote speaker at the conference in Portland in 2011, where he also received the Sid Brown Award of Excellence see photo

Great article about the attitudes and preferences of Millennials. One eye popping statistic: By 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Millennials will account for 75 percent of the global workforce.

Author cites some very interesting observations about these younger folks. Here are a few of my favorites:

Those intangibles are still definitely important to them,” said Shreffler, “but they’re starting to realize that having a plastic palm tree in the office isn’t necessary to have fun.

This generation is highly collaborative, often researching and checking with friends before making a purchase, “even before buying a cup of coffee,”
